How to create a QR code

Pick the QR code type, fill in the details and the code shows up in the preview automatically. Everything happens in your browser: nothing you type — a link, a phone number, a Wi-Fi password or plain text — is sent to a server.

  1. Pick the QR code type: link, WhatsApp, Wi-Fi, Pix or text.
  2. Fill in the details — the preview appears as you type.
  3. Adjust size and error correction if you need to.
  4. Download as PNG or SVG, or copy the image.

Static vs. dynamic QR codes

The codes generated here are static: the content is baked into the image itself. That means they never expire, they work offline and they do not depend on any intermediary service staying online — not even this site. The trade-off is that the destination cannot be changed once printed.

A dynamic QR code points at a redirect you control, which lets you swap the destination later and count scans. In exchange, it depends on whoever hosts that redirect — if the subscription lapses, the printed code stops working. For most everyday uses, static is the safer choice.

Printing best practices

  • Size: make the code at least one tenth of the scanning distance on each side. At 30 cm, about 3 cm; on a poster read from 2 metres, about 20 cm.
  • Quiet zone: keep the white margin around the code. Without it, scanners cannot tell where the grid ends.
  • Contrast: dark code on a light background. The inverse fails on many scanners.
  • Format: SVG for print and large formats, PNG for digital use.
  • Test before printing at scale: print a proof at final size and scan it with more than one device.

Frequently asked questions

How do I create a QR code for free?

Pick the QR code type, fill in the content and the preview appears automatically as you type. Then download it as PNG or SVG — no sign-up.

Do the QR codes generated here expire?

No. The codes are static: the content is baked into the image itself. They keep working for as long as the encoded content, such as a website address, stays valid.

Do I need an account, or is there anything to pay?

No. The tool is free, requires no sign-up and has no usage limit.

Is my data sent to a server?

No. Generation happens entirely in your browser. Nothing you type — link, phone number, Wi-Fi password or text — leaves your device.

What is the difference between PNG and SVG?

PNG is a pixel image, ideal for digital use and for printing at the exported size. SVG is vector based and can be scaled to any dimension without losing sharpness, which makes it the right format for print shops and large formats.

Can I use these QR codes commercially?

Yes. The codes you generate are yours and can be used in commercial material, printed or digital, with no attribution required.

What is error correction in a QR code?

It is the redundancy that lets a code still be read when it is partly damaged or dirty. Level L tolerates roughly 7% damage and produces the simplest code; level H tolerates roughly 30% but makes the grid denser. M is the recommended balance for most uses.

What size should I print a QR code at?

The rule of thumb is to make each side at least one tenth of the scanning distance. For scanning at 30 cm, about 3 cm; for a poster read from 2 metres, about 20 cm. Always leave a white margin around it.
