Convert an image without uploading it
Switch an image between JPG, PNG and WebP. Conversion happens in your browser, and the result is checked against the format you requested.

JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF or BMP — the file never leaves your browser
The image is processed inside this tab. Nothing is sent to a server, and EXIF metadata, including GPS location, is not copied into the output file.
Step by step
- Choose or drop the image.
- Pick the output format.
- Set the quality, if the chosen format is lossy.
- Download the converted file.
Which format should you convert to?
Pick JPG for photographs that will be shared or published, when transparency is not needed. It is the most universally supported format there is.
Pick PNG when the image has a transparent background, text, charts or flat areas of color. Compression is lossless, so nothing is discarded.
Pick WebP for images on a website: files 25% to 35% smaller than JPG at comparable quality, with transparency support.
Why would a conversion be refused?
Because not every browser can write every format, and the API that performs the conversion has a dangerous habit: when it cannot encode what you asked for, it does not raise an error — it silently hands back a PNG. AVIF encoding, for instance, only works in Chrome.
Without a check, you would download a PNG carrying the wrong extension and only find out when some other program rejected the file. Here the result’s format is verified against what was requested, and the conversion fails with a clear message rather than handing you something else.
Is transparency lost when converting to JPG?
Yes. The JPEG format has no alpha channel, so transparent areas have to become a solid color — usually white. There is no way around it within the format.
If transparency matters, convert to PNG or WebP, which both support an alpha channel. A logo with a transparent background turned into a JPG picks up a white rectangle that shows against any colored backdrop.

Frequently asked questions
How do you convert PNG to JPG for free?
Choose the PNG file, pick JPG as the output format and download. Conversion runs in your browser with no sign-up and no upload. Note that transparent areas will become white.
Is converting to WebP worth it?
For images on a website, yes: WebP typically produces files 25% to 35% smaller than JPG at comparable quality and is read by every current browser. For files that will open in older software, JPG remains the safer choice.
Does converting change the image size?
The pixel dimensions stay the same. The file size changes, and it can go up or down depending on the target format and the kind of content in the image.
Why is AVIF not in the list?
Because AVIF encoding only works in Chrome. Offering it elsewhere would hand you a PNG in disguise, so the format is only shown when your browser can genuinely write it.
