How a Pix QR code works
Pix is the instant payment system run by the Central Bank of Brazil. A Pix QR code is not a link: it carries a standardised text called BR Code, defined by the Central Bank on top of the EMV specification. That text is exactly the same content as the Pix copy-paste code — the QR code is simply its visual form.
The BR Code is assembled from TLV blocks (identifier, length, value). Each block carries one piece of data: the recipient key, the name, the city, the currency, and the amount when there is one. A CRC-16 check value closes the payload so the bank app can detect a corrupted code before showing the charge.
Because the text is self-contained, the code works with any bank or wallet that supports Pix — Nubank, Itaú, Caixa, Banco do Brasil, Bradesco, Santander, Inter, Mercado Pago and the rest — with no intermediary involved.
Why some Pix QR codes are rejected
The most common cause is a subtle mistake in the check value. The CRC-16 has to be calculated over the whole payload including the four characters "6304", which identify the check value field itself. Many generators leave those four characters out, producing a code that scans fine but is refused by the bank app.
The second cause is field length: the recipient name accepts at most 25 characters and the city at most 15, both without accents. A generator that ignores this declares a length that does not match the actual content, and the app cannot parse the rest of the payload.
This generator includes "6304" in the checksum, strips accents and enforces both limits automatically — and the result is covered by tests on every change to the code.
Your Pix key never leaves your browser
The whole BR Code is assembled on your device in JavaScript. The key, name, city, amount and reference are not sent to any server, not stored in any database and not written to any log. You can verify it by going offline after the page loads: the generator keeps working.
This matters more here than in any other tool on this site. A Pix key identifies you and your bank account — it should not travel through somebody else’s server just to become an image.
Open amount or fixed amount
Leaving the amount blank produces a code where the payer types how much to pay. That is the right format for a tip jar, a donation, or a fixed code on a counter serving purchases of different sizes.
Filling in the amount locks the sum into the charge. That is the right format for a specific order, a subscription or an agreed sale — it removes typing mistakes and arguments about how much was paid.
The reference is optional and helps reconciliation: it comes back on your statement alongside the payment, so you can tell which order it belongs to. It accepts letters and digits, up to 25 characters.
Static and dynamic codes
The code generated here is static: the data lives in the image itself, it never expires and it can be reused as many times as you like. That is the right format to print and leave on a counter, a shop window, a bill or a poster.
A dynamic Pix code is generated per charge by a payment provider, carries an expiry and lets you track each transaction individually. It requires integration with a financial institution, which is why a browser-only tool cannot create one.

Frequently asked questions
How do I generate a Pix QR code for free?
Enter your Pix key, the recipient name and the city. The QR code and the copy-paste code appear automatically and can be downloaded or copied, with no sign-up.
What is Pix copy-paste?
It is exactly the same content as the QR code, in text form. The payer can paste that text into the bank app under the Pix copy-paste option instead of scanning the image. It is what you use to charge over WhatsApp, email or chat, where a camera is not involved.
Does it work with Nubank, Itaú, Caixa, Banco do Brasil and Inter?
Yes. The code follows the Central Bank BR Code standard, which is the same across every institution. Any bank or digital wallet that supports Pix can read the code generated here.
Do I have to set an amount?
No. Leaving the amount blank lets the payer type the sum at payment time — useful for tips, donations or a fixed code on a counter. Filling it in locks the amount into the charge.
Does a Pix QR code expire?
No. The code generated here is static: the data lives in the image and can be reused indefinitely. It only stops working if you deactivate the Pix key at your bank.
Is my Pix key sent to a server?
No. The code is assembled entirely in your browser. The key, name, city and amount never leave your device, are never stored and never appear in any log.
What is the difference between static and dynamic Pix?
A static code stores the data in the image itself, never expires and is made for reuse. A dynamic code is generated per charge by a payment provider, carries an expiry and allows tracking each transaction — but it requires bank integration, so it cannot be created in the browser alone.
Can I use the same QR code with several customers?
Yes. A static code with no fixed amount can sit on the counter and be used by as many payers as you like. Each payment shows up on your statement as usual.
What is the reference for?
It comes back on your statement alongside the payment and helps you tell which order or customer it belongs to. It is optional, accepts letters and digits, and is limited to 25 characters.
Why did my bank reject the Pix QR code?
Almost always the generator computed the check value incorrectly — it has to include the characters "6304" in the calculation. It can also be a name over 25 characters, a city over 15, or accents that were not stripped. This generator handles all three automatically.
